Music for Alzheimer

An AI-assisted music prototype for Alzheimer care.

Since 2025, Shuran has been developing Music for Alzheimer with a fellow student and clinical collaborators, bringing together his interests in computer science and music. His work spans software development, evaluation, and research writing.

The Music for Alzheimer prototype: a therapy session with patient status and music playbackPublished · JMIR Formative Research 2026
The working prototype: a therapy session with patient status and live music playback.

The project

Music for Alzheimer combines culturally familiar music with short, AI-assisted prompts for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease. It explores how software can support more personal music-based interactions.

How it works

Caregivers record emotional states and memory responses. These inputs inform music selection and context-aware prompts. A session interface helps caregivers review responses over time.

Contribution

Shuran contributed to software development, validation, analysis, visualization, and the original manuscript, alongside a fellow student and clinical collaborators. He is the first-listed author of the research letter; the paper credits all authors with equal contributions.

Early evaluation

The formative study involved eight caregivers, with five live sessions and three simulated sessions. It explored usability and feasibility. Clinical effectiveness has not been established.
